The 2711P-RDB15C keypad has numeric keys, navigation keys, and 40 function keys. The function keys are programmable by the users. When the module is first powered on, the system launches the FactoryTalk View Machine Edition software. This software is pre-installed in the display module and it runs HMI displays that are programmed by industrial automation engineers. The 2711P-RDB15C terminal also runs the Windows CE 4.1 OS.

The 2711P-RDB15C terminal provides standard Windows features like a command processor, Explorer shell, and Network user interface. It has a built-in PDF viewer for reading content documents and a mechanism for creating backups which can be restored in case of a system malfunction.

The applications running on this module can be restarted by pressing the reset button in the back of the 2711P-RDB15C module. One of the useful applications running on this display module is the Logo Manager which is used to change the logo that is shown on the splash screen at startup and to design the default screen saver image. The 2711P-RDB15C can be connected to various external peripherals such as a printer.
