Bently Nevada 2300 Series Vibration Monitors: Applications, Model Structure, Selection & Comparison Aug 15, 2026

Vibration monitoring is an important part of machinery protection, but not every machine requires a large rack-based monitoring system. For essential medium- to low-criticality machinery, less critical machines, and spared equipment, a compact monitoring platform can provide continuous vibration measurement, alarming, protection, and communication while keeping the channel count appropriate for the application.

The series consists primarily of the 2300/20 and 2300/25 monitor configurations. Both provide two vibration measurement inputs, a dedicated speed channel, relay outputs, buffered transducer outputs, local display, Ethernet communication, and Modbus over Ethernet.

The key difference is the system interface:
2300/20 → Configurable 4–20 mA outputs
2300/25 → Trendmaster SPA interface

What Is the Bently Nevada 2300 Series?

The Bently Nevada 2300 Series is a compact machinery vibration monitoring and protection platform for continuous monitoring of essential medium- to low-criticality machinery, as well as less critical and spared machinery. The monitors provide vibration monitoring and high-vibration-level alarming. Each monitor includes two channels of seismic or proximity measurement inputs, supporting different accelerometer, Velomitor, and Proximitor types.A separate speed input channel is provided for time-synchronous measurements.
The basic monitoring architecture can therefore be understood as:
2 Vibration Inputs + 1 Speed Input + 2 Relay Outputs + 3 Buffered Outputs + Communication
The two vibration channels use synchronized sampling and can be configured for acceleration, velocity, or proximity measurements.

Where Is the Bently Nevada 2300 Series Used?

Oil & Gas
The 2300 Series can be applied to machinery monitoring requirements within oil and gas facilities where the machine's required sensor point count fits the monitor's channel capacity.
Power Generation
The series provides continuous vibration monitoring and protection functions for applicable machinery within power generation facilities.
Water Treatment
For water-treatment machinery requiring a compact number of vibration monitoring points, the two-channel architecture can be applied where it matches the required sensor count.
Pulp & Paper
The 2300 Series is also identified for machinery monitoring applications within pulp and paper operations.
Manufacturing
Industrial manufacturing facilities can use the series for applicable machine trains or individual machine casings requiring continuous vibration monitoring.

How to choose a Bently Nevada 2300 series monitor?

Selecting between the 2300/20 and 2300/25 should start with the application rather than the model number.

Step 1: Determine the Required System Interface

This is the most important distinction.
Choose 2300/20 when:
The application requires configurable 4–20 mA outputs for interfacing measurement points with a DCS.
Choose 2300/25 when:
The application requires a Trendmaster SPA interface and needs to use existing DSM SPA infrastructure.
In simple terms:
4–20 mA / DCS → 2300/20
Trendmaster SPA → 2300/25

Step 2: Confirm the Required Sensor Type

Next, identify the vibration transducer being used.
The 2300 platform supports Bently Nevada transducers and compatible two- or three-wire custom transducers for:
Accelerometers
Velomitor
Proximitor
The sensor type and its electrical characteristics should be checked against the monitor configuration before ordering.

Step 3: Confirm What You Need to Measure
The required measurement should match the sensor and machine-monitoring objective.
Available measurement types include acceleration, velocity, displacement, and speed.
The monitor also supports radial vibration and thrust channel configurations within the specifications provided in the datasheet.

Step 4: Determine Whether Speed Measurement Is Required
The 2300 Series provides a dedicated Speed/Keyphasor channel.
Supported interfaces include:
Proximity transducer
Proximity switch
Magnetic pickup
The required speed range should also be checked.

Step 5: Confirm Relay Requirements
Both models provide two dry-contact relay outputs with programmable setpoints.
Relays can be configured as normally energized or normally de-energized.

If the relays will be used for alarm annunciation or machinery protection functions, the required relay logic and electrical ratings should be confirmed during system design.

Step 6: Confirm Installation and Power
The monitor requires:
18–36 VDC, maximum 7.5 W
The series supports panel and DIN-rail mounting.
Before ordering, check the available DC supply, installation arrangement, enclosure requirements, wiring, and environmental conditions.
