The 1756-L64 is a ControlLogix standard controller. It has a 16 MB user memory available for data and logic and an I/O memory of 478 kb. An optional CompactFlash memory card can be used as an additional non-volatile memory of this controller. Note that the only memory card compatible with the 1756-L64 is the 128 MB 1764-CF128 model. The 1756-L64 controller can handle a maximum of 250 controller connections. It should be mentioned that the scan time for a project loaded in this controller may be slower compared to other 1756-L6x controllers loaded with the same project. It also has full support for controller redundancy.
ControlLogix 5560 controllers, like the 1756-L64 controller, have three controller tasks available and these are 100 programs/task, 32 tasks, and event tasks: all event triggers. Serial port communications available with this controller are DH-485, DF1 full/half-duplex, DF1 radio modem, ASCII, and Modbus via logic. The 1756-L64 controller also supports various communication options, particularly EtherNet/IP, Data Highway Plus, SynchLink, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Remote I/O, and Third-party process and device networks.
