The 1784-PCIC card is a ControlNet universal PCI communication card. For installation, the host computer’s expansion slots need to be accessed and then the card needs to be inserted into the computer. The computer must be shut down prior to the card installation. Because the card is sensitive to damage caused by ESD, the following guidelines should be while handling the card: the users should touch a grounded object to discharge static, use grounded wrist straps, avoid touching card components and pins and connectors, work in status-safe areas, and store the card in a static-safe container when not in use. The dimensions of the 1784-PCIC card are 4.2 x 6.5 inches. The 1784-PCIC card has an RJ-45 connector for connecting programming terminals to ControlNet devices. It also has redundant BNC connectors for ControlNet connection.

Only a 1786-CP cable should be used when connecting the programming terminal to the 1784-PCIC card. The 1784-PCIC card is compatible with 5 Volts and 3.3 Volts rated PCI slots, 32-bit and 64-bit PCI slots and PCI-X slots. The power dissipation for the card is 3.5 Watts. The isolation voltage is 50 Volts and it is tested to withstand 600 Volts for 60 seconds. Category 2 wire should be used for communication ports on the 1784-PCIC card. The drivers for the 1784-PCIC card are compatible with Windows XP (SP1 or higher), Windows 2000 (SP4 or higher), Windows 98, and Windows Me. The working temperature range for the card is 0 to 50 degrees Celsius. The recommended temperature range for storage and transportation is -40 to 85 degrees Celsius. The 1784-PCIC card is certified by the CE, CSA, UR, EEx, and C-tick standards
