The 1203-CN1 ControlNet communications module is made to act as an interface between the ControlNet network and a single SCANport product. It can also connect to a PC and it offers the benefits of the ControlNet network such as unscheduled messaging to a variety of industrial devices.

The 1203-CN1 ControlNet communications module consumes 250 milliamps at 24 Volts DC. ControlNet is an open communication network that offers redundant media, unscheduled messaging, and deterministic I/O control. The 1203-CN1 ControlNet communications module should only be installed or serviced by technicians who are familiar with SCANport devices.

SCANport is a peripheral communication interface that is compatible with multiple products, including the 1203-CN1 ControlNet communications module. This ControlNet module is made with parts that are sensitive to ESD or electrostatic discharge. If static control precautions are not taken when the controller is being installed, tested, used, or serviced, then the controller may be damaged.

The 1203-CN1 ControlNet communications module is designed to act as an electronic communications interface between the ControlNet network and a SCANport product, but it can only interface with 1 SCANport product at a time. The 1203-CN1 ControlNet communications module makes the SCANport connection with a SCANport cable and a standard 8-pin circular mini-DIN SCANport connector.

This communications module also has a DIN Rail mounting slot for mounting it onto a DIN Rail base, an RS-232 serial communications port, a ControlNet network access port, and bi-color LEDs that give status updates to the users about the state of the SCANport connection, the ControlNet media channel, and the module itself. The users must set the communication module’s node address before power is applied to it for the first time. The node address must be set with an instrument that has a blunt point, but not a pencil or pen because the graphite or ink may damage the controller.
