The SST-PFB-SLC is a Profibus Scanner module intended for use with the SLC 500 controller series of , which is manufactured by SST. This module is compatible for use with SLC 5/03 or higher processor modules. This module is able to scan I/O devices in the Profibus network, utilized for implementing Remote I/O or distributed I/O architecture.

The SST-PFB-SLC Profibus Scanner Module is a Profibus network scanner module for the SLC 500 controllers. This scanner module is designed to connect the series SLC 5/03 or later processors to Profibus DP master devices, DP slave devices, or FDL devices on the Profibus network. The SST-PFB-SLC Scanner Module can act as a remote I/O scanner that is capable of scanning up to 96 I/O slave devices connected to the bus.

As standard, the SST-PFB-SLC Scanner Module supports up to 244 bytes of I/O data per slave device, but this capacity can be expanded to 1000 words of input data and 128 words of output data by using the SST Profibus configuration tools. The SST-PFB-SLC Scanner Module can be installed in any I/O slot in the SLC rack except Slot 0 which is usually reserved for the SLC processor. The users can also install multiple scanners on the same rack.

The SST-PFB-SLC Scanner Module supports all the standard Profibus Baud rates, which include 9600 Baud, 19.2 kBaud, 93.75 kBaud, 187.5 kBaud, 500 kBaud, 750 kBaud, 1.5 MBaud, 3 MBaud, 6 MBaud, and 12 MBaud. The users can easily configure any I/O device on the DP network by using the SST Profibus configuration tool.

The SST-PFB-SLC Scanner Module has an onboard flash memory for storing configuration files, thereby eliminating the need for reconfiguration on every SLC startup. The SST-PFB-SLC Scanner Module provides standard status updates such as the FDL, network, and DP master diagnostics updates as well as individual status updates for each slave device connected on the bus. The SST-PFB-SLC Scanner Module has a maximum backplane current draw of 700 milliamps at 5 Volts DC.
